Here are some suggestions for you if you would like to explore the Bay Area a little bit during your stay:

Union Square (San Francisco)

A lot of shops around Union Square and inside near by mall -Westfield San Francisco Shopping Center.

Chinatown and Cable Car are just few blocks away too if you want the full-on SF tourist experience.

Indoor marketplace located at San Francisco waterfront by the Bay Bridge.

It's a nice place to take a stroll by since it is right next to the bay overlooking the Bay Bridge.

Great bakery (Acme Bread), coffee (Blue Bottle), and desserts (Miette).

It's not your typical park. It's where California Academy of Sciences and a few other museums are located.

Also where Charles proposed to Olivia, and she said yes! (Stow Lake @ Golden Gate Park)

Santana Row (San Jose)

One of the nicest outdoor mall in the Bay Area. Good for families and picture-taking. Right next to Westfield Valleyfair Mall.

Biggest indoor shopping mall in the Bay Area. Please spare a couple hours to go through the mall:)
